Suspected Lung Cancer (Patient) - RML Mass

Patient Description
73-year-old male with RML mass. CT showed R pleural effusion, R lung mass and R hilar adenopathy Pathology equivocal

Prior to PET
Formerly, shadows on a chest X-ray would have precipitated a CT scan and biopsy or surgery to remove a portion of the lung. If malignant, the patient would probably have been scheduled for additional surgery.

With PET
With PET, one scan can show with high reliability if the lesion is malignant or benign. If benign, the patient can avoid surgery with modest follow-up. If malignant, this unique information from PET will accurately show the extent of disease and help determine if the patient should undergo surgery or other therapy.
